Opened for use during the 1984-85 academic year, TCNJ's outdoor tennis courts were the site of the 1990 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships, the first NCAA tennis championship held at TCNJ. The facility also served as the home for the 1999 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships. Resurfaced during the fall of 1995, the outdoor courts are located in the middle of the Ewing campus. They are lighted for night play with seating for 200. Four indoor courts opened in 1980 as part of the attractive Student Recreation Center. The indoor lighting is by indirect mercury-vapor lamps. The surface for both the indoor and outdoor courts is Chevron.
In addition, the Student Recreation Center includes varsity lockers, eight racquetball courts, and a weight training room. Several ITA tournaments are held at TCNJ’s facilities annually. In 1981, The College of New Jersey served as the host for the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Division III Championships, the final year before NCAA championships for women began.
Not only will the facility house the Lions' regular-season competition this year, but TCNJ also serves as the host site for several tournaments, including the several ITA Eastern Small College Women's Championships.
