As a four-year starter for the lacrosse team, she was picked as the recipient of the 1993 Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award, signifying Division III's top-rated goalkeeper. Carey-Smith was a two-time All-American and holds school records for most games played in goal (63), most career saves (638), fewest goals allowed in a season (71) and in a career (314), and career win/loss record (69-4). With her formidable play in goal, she led the Lions to three NCAA Championships.
