Women's Swimming & Diving Falls to Bloomsburg, 136-122

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey’s women’s swimming & diving team was in action on Saturday afternoon in TCNJ’s Aquatic Center against Division II Bloomsburg University.  Bloomsburg handed the Lions a 136-122 loss as the Huskies won seven of 14 events to drop TCNJ to 3-2 on the season.  The Huskies improve to 3-0 overall.

For Bloomsburg, sophomore Kari Pokrzywa (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) had two first-place finishes as she captured the 100 back (1:02.52) and the 200 back in 2:12.88.  Pokrzywa also swam on the winning 400-medley relay (4:13.13). 

BU’s sophomore Erin Carey (West Chester, PA/Henderson) won the 100 breast in 1:11.00 and the 200 breast in 2:32.84, while also swimming on the winning 400-medley relay. 

Freshman Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood, PA/Southmoreland) took first for the Huskies in both the 200 free (2:00.09) and the 500 free (5:22.79).

TCNJ’s senior tri-captains Aubrey Horvath (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and Lauren O’Donnell (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) were a one-two punch in the 100 free as Horvath came in first in 55.70 and O’Donnell second in 56.33.  Horvath also captured the 50 free (24.52) and the 1000 free (11:09.93), while swimming on the winning 400 free relay along with O’Donnell. 

O’Donnell took first in the 100 fly with a time of 1:00.63, just missing an NCAA ‘B’ cut.  She also placed second in the 200 free (2:00.71). 

The Lions’ sophomore Erin Stutz (Cedar Grove, NJ/The Montclair Kimberly Academy) captured the 400 IM with a time of 4:44.04, almost an NCAA ‘B’ cut.  Stutz also won the 200 fly in 2:13.95, while taking third in the 200 breast (2:38.98).

In exhibition diving events, senior diver Kristen Simms (Mt. Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) scored 290.40 in the one-meter event and 287.40 in the three-meter event.

Up next for the women will be the Franklin & Marshall College Invitational on December 5-7, an event that TCNJ won last year.
