Boyd leads Lions on day one at NCAA's

In the women’s 400 meter run, freshman Brittny Boyd became an All-American after finishing in eighth place nationally with a time of 58.37.

Minneapolis, MN…The College of New Jersey men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams opened competition at the 2006 NCAA Division III Championships on Friday at St. Olaf College. The two-day event will wrap on Saturday night with the crowning of the 2006 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Team Champions.

TCNJ’s senior Brittny Boyd (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) advanced to the finals of the 400 meter run after a record setting day at St. Olaf’s. On Friday, she broke the Tostrud Center record in the 400 meter run as she posted a time of 57.20 and had the fastest trial time at the meet. Earlier in the day, she competed in the long jump and recorded a performance of 5.35 meters which was sixth in her flight but did not qualify for the finals.

TCNJ’s senior Jeff Zodda (Mercerville, NJ/Notre Dame) also advanced to the finals of the 800 meter run after winning his heat and posting the second fastest time of the day after he recorded a time of 1:54.01.

In the 800 meter run, junior All-American Angela Tecco (Wildwood Crest, NJ/Lower Cape May) posted a time of 2:14.69 in the trials to take fourth in her heat and has advanced to Saturday’s finals.

Sophomore Brian Kopnicki (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) competed in the mile run and finished in sixth in his heat in 4:21.49, but did not qualify for the finals.  Senior Kevin Jones (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) also competed for the Lions in the long jump and posted a performance of 6.82 meters in his heat to finish in fourth, but did not advance to the finals.

Sophomore Jessica Bonelli (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) also competed in the 400 meter run and posted a time of 58.47, but did not qualify for the finals.
