Chester, PA…The College of New Jersey men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed on Saturday at both Princeton University and at the Widener University Invitationals and even though the conditions were less than ideal, TCNJ’s competitors managed to record five NCAA provisional performances and eight ECAC qualifying times.
Competing at the Princeton Invitational, TCNJ’s senior Jeff Zodda (Mercerville, NJ/Notre Dame) posted an NCAA provisional time of 1:52.53 while competing in the 800 meter run and sophomore Brian Kopnicki (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) posted and NCAA provisional time as he turned in a time of 9:17.22 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
TCNJ had three ECAC worthy times in the 5,000 meter run as freshman Chris Guerriero (Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) led the way in 15:01.55 with freshman Kyle Alpaugh (High Bridge, NJ/Voorhees) next in 15:07.69 and then senior Matt Randal (Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) next for the Lions in 15:09.83 as all three had ECAC qualifying times.
TCNJ’s women who competed at Princeton also had a number of strong times. Among them, freshman Stephanie Herrick (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) improved upon her NCAA provisional time in the 800 meters as she had a time of 2:13.38. Also improving upon her NCAA qualifying time was junior Angela Tecco (Wildwood Crest, NJ/Lower Cape May) as she recorded a time of 2:14.87 in the same race.
Freshman Martine McGrath (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) had an NCAA provisional worthy time as she competed in the steeplechase and finished in 11:17.49.
Sophomore Erin Enderly (Ocean Township, NJ/Ocean Township) posted an ECAC worthy time as she competed in the 5,000 meter run and posted a personal best effort of 17:57.08. Another ECAC worthy time that was another personal best was that of 18:02.59 turned in by freshman Megan O’Leary (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee).
Among the Lions that traveled to Widener University were TCNJ’s senior Erika Huggler (Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Regional). Huggler had a strong pair of finishes in the 400 meter hurdles taking third in 1:06.67 and fourth in the 100 hurdles in 15.73.
Junior Jenna Prendergast (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) as she finished third in the 5,000 meters and had an ECAC worthy time of 18:23.64. Also running in the same race was TCNJ’s freshman Julie Ullmeyer (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) as she posted a time of 18:29.72 which qualified her for the ECAC’s. Also running was TCNJ’s junior Christine Nystrom (Skillman, NJ/Montgomery) as she posted a time of 19:07.99 in the event as well.
Rookie Michelle Barbarasch (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) turned in a personal best effort in the 1,500 meters in 5:02.00, while freshman Susan Crum (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong) placed third in the 800 meters in 2:26.05, another personal best effort.
For the Lion men at the Widener Invitational, senior Karim Cockrell (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) picked up third place in the 100 meters in 11.31, while freshman Matt Warren (Northfield, NJ/Mainland Regional) posted an ECAC worthy time of 57.26 in the 400 hurdles. Freshman Greg Bull (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) posted a personal best time as he ran a 4:05.04 in the 1,500 meters on the day.
