Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams hosted the 23rd Annual Lions’ Invitational on Saturday. The non-team scored event saw about 800 competitors run at the meet.
Among the highlights for the Lions were 14 ECAC qualifying performances and one NCAA provisional time.
For TCNJ’s women’ sophomore Sara Best (High Bridge, NJ/Voorhees) placed sixth in the 800 meters in 2:18.86, an ECAC qualifying time. In the 1,500 meter run, the Lions had four runners post ECAC qualifying times, while a pair had personal best times as well in the event as senior Kara Horner (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) placed third in 4:48.56, a pr and freshman Megan O’Leary (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) placed fourth in 4:49.13, another pr. Taking seventh and eighth respectively, freshman Julie Ullmeyer (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) posted a time of 4:53.82, while sophomore Erin Enderly (Ocean Township, NJ/Ocean Township) had a time of 4:54.18.
Senior Erika Huggler (Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Regional) placed third in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.68 and fourth in the 100 hurdles in 15.27, both ECAC worthy times. Freshman Stephanie Herrick (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) picked up sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:05.52, another ECAC worthy time.
Among the highlights by TCNJ’s men, senior Kevin Jones (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) won the 200 meters in 21.97, an ECAC qualifying time, while senior Jeff Zodda (Mercerville, NJ/Notre Dame) won the 800 meter run in 1:51.61, an ECAC qualifying time and an NCAA provisional mark.
In the 1,500 meter run, senior Matt Randal (Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) posted personal best time of 3:57.76 to earn a spot in the ECAC’s after placing fourth, while freshman Chris Guerriero (Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) placed sixth in 3:59.68, a personal best time and an ECAC worthy effort. Another Lion, freshman Greg Bull (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) placed in eighth and had a personal best record time of 4:01.61to earn a spot in the ECAC championships as well.
In the pole vault, senior Brian Hoffman (Washington Crossing, PA/Council Rock) had an ECAC mark of 4.35 meters to take second while junior Colin Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ/Northern Highlands) picked second in the triple jump with his ECAC qualifying mark of 13.26 meters.
In the, 5,000 meter run, freshman Matt Dolan (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) placed 15th with a personal best time of 16:08.80, while sophomore Otto Katt (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) picked up seventh in the 400 hurdles with personal best effort of 57.89.
