Glassboro, NJ… The College of New Jersey’s men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed on Saturday in the 2006 New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships at Rowan University. The Lion men and women won the team titles, while TCNJ’s sophomore Jessica Bonelli (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) was named the Female Track Athlete of the Meet and head coach Eric Mobley was named the men’s Co-Coach of the Year.
The women’s title was the 14th straight NJAC Championship and the team’s 23rd overall since the event started in 1983. The Lion men have now won nine in a row and 10 overall since the first championship in 1975. TCNJ’s men’s and women’s cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field programs have now swept the NJAC team titles for the last nine years.

WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
Bonelli won the 400 meters with an NCAA provisional time of 56.94, while taking second in the 200 meters in 24.82, another NCAA provisional time. She was also part of the Lions’ first place 4 x 100 relay team that had another NCAA provisional time at the meet. Joining Bonelli on the winning relay were sophomore Carolyn Gray (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional), senior Erika Huggler (Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Regional), and senior Brittny Boyd (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown).
Boyd had two individual NCAA provisional marks as she took second in the 100 meters in 12.27 and picked up third in the 200 meters in 24.94.
Huggler won the 400 meter hurdles in 66.4 and picked up second in the 100 hurdles in 15.21. Gray was the runner-up in the race in 59.52.
Junior Angela Tecco (Wildwood Crest, NJ/Lower Cape May) posted an NJAC meet record as she won the 800 meters in 2:15.25, which is also an NCAA provisional time.
Rookie Carolyn Gerbehy (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) posted a personal best effort in the triple jump with her mark of 10.46 meters and finished in third in the high jump (1.50 meters), while sophomore Sara Best (High Bridge, NJ/Voorhees) picked up second in the 800 meters in 2:18.22.
Senior Kara Horner (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) won the 1,500 meters in 4:55.61, while senior Jenna Fasula (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) won the 5,000 meters in 18:29.77. Junior Christine Nystrom (Skillman, NJ/Montgomery) was the champion in the 10,000 meters in 40:54.91. Freshman Martine McGrath (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 11:51.16,
MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
Senior Karim Cockrell (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) had a strong showing on Saturday as he took second in the long jump (6.79 meters), third in the 200 meters (22.44) and third in the 100 meters (10.76, an NCAA provisional qualifying time).
Cockrell was also part of the Lions’ third place 4 x 400 relay team that had a time of performance of 3:24.76.
In the 1,500 meter run, senior Brian Donovan (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) was the champion after a time of 3:59.52, while senior Matt Randal (Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) picked up third in the 1,500 meter run (4:01.05) and took sixth in the 800 meters in 1:58.11.
Senior Kevin Jones (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) placed second in the 200 meter dash in 22.29. Freshman Chris Guerriero (Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) won the 5,000 meters in 15:49.93
In the 10,000 meter run, senior Greg Howe (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) took second in 34:09.12, while sophomore Steve Kinney (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills Regional) took third in 34:27.32.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, the Lions were led by sophomore Brian Kopnicki (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) won the race in 9:57.64, besting fellow Lion, sophomore Galen Johnson (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) who took second in 10:11.31.
Junior Colin Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ/Northern Highlands) took second in the triple jump in 13.22 meters, while freshman Rob McGowan (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) took second in the 400 meters in 49.15.
Freshman Pat DiGioacchino (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) second in the 800 meter run in 1:59.89, while senior Matt Randal (Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) third in the event in 2:00.39.
