Guerriero and McGrath leads Lion runners to second place showings on Saturday

Williamstown, MA… The College of New Jersey men's and women's cross country teams competed on Saturday at the Williams College Plansky Invitational at Mt. Greylock High School. Both teams finished in second place in their respective races, while senior Chris Guerriero (Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) won the men's 8 k varsity race with his time of 25:25.9 and senior Martine McGrath (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) took home second place for the Lions with her time of 22:38.6 for the women's 6 k varsity race.

TCNJ's men's team picked up a second place showing with 45 points behind nationally ranked MIT which won the race with 31 points. Guerriero won the race which consisted of 106 male runners and nine teams.

Right behind individual champion, Guerriero was TCNJ's sophomore TJ Bocchino (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) who took second in 26:31.4. Freshman Alex Yersak (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had a strong race taking ninth place in 26:54.6, while junior Brandon Rodkewitz (Wharton, NJ/Morris Hills) took 13th in 27:14.1.

Next to finish for the Lions was sophomore Dennie Waite (Little Silver, NJ/Red Bank Regional) in 20th place in 27:32.1. Senior Mike Fonder (River Edge, NJ/River Dell) posted a time of 27:42.0 for 22nd place and the final Lions' runner was sophomore Kyle Roos (Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Regional) with a time of 27:42.1 to take 23rd place.

McGrath took home second in 22:38.6 in a field of 119 runners. MIT won the women's team scored title with 44, while the Lions took home second with 54 points in a field of eight teams. Junior Michelle Wallace (Emerson, NJ/Emerson) finished sixth overall boasting a time of 23:20.9. Senior Stephanie Herrick (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) earned a time of 23:26.7 to take eighth, while junior Megan Donovan (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) picked up 18th in 24:05.6.

Rookie Katie Nestor (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) posted a 20th place finish in 24:13.7. Rounding out the Lion runners for the day were junior Nicole Ullmeyer (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) in 24:31.8 in 26th and senior Justine Carnevale (Oceanport, NJ /Shore Regional) in 24:41.9 to take 29th place.
