Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey field hockey team picked up several more post-season honors as four players were named to the 2008 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III South Atlantic Region teams.

Named to the South Atlantic Region First Team were senior Kelly Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), senior Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), and sophomore Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), while senior Jackie Gelinas (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) earned a spot on the second team.

Prior to this honor, Reuther was selected as the NJAC Midfielder of the Year and tabbed All-NJAC First Team. She is a two-time NJAC all-conference selection and helped lead the Lions to their third consecutive NJAC Championship. Reuther finished third in the NJAC in overall assists (11).

Kelly Mitchell was previously tabbed as the 2008 NJAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Mitchell anchored TCNJ’s defensive unit that led the NJAC in team goals against average (0.89), fewest goals allowed (17), and shutouts (9). Mitchell also earned a spot on the All-NJAC First Team for the second straight year.

Leigh Mitchell led the Lions in scoring this fall with 19 goals and 45 points. Those 19 goals tied the Lion forward for third in the NJAC and she also garnered All-NJAC First Team recognition.

Gelinas came on the strong for the Lions after missing the first few games with an injury to finish with 18 points on four goals and 10 assists in just 12 games. She was also a vital part of TCNJ’s defense. She was also tabbed All-NJAC First Team.

This season, the Lions finished with an overall record of 16-3 and advanced to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals.
