Bristol, RI – The College of New Jersey men's and women's cross country teams each competed at the 2008 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championships on Saturday at Colt State Park. TCNJ's women's and men's team both finished in ninth place in their respective races. On the women's side of the competition, second ranked Williams College won the championship with a score of 23 points, while No. 29 ranked Amherst College took second with 75 points. TCNJ's women's team, which is ranked 19th nationally took ninth with a score of 294 points.
On the men's side of the competition, Williams picked up the championship crown as well as the No. 8 ranked Ephs tallied 64 points. 13th ranked Keene State took second with 100 points and the Lions posted a score of 254 to take ninth. TCNJ's men's team is ranked 25th in Division III.
Senior Brian Kopnicki (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) led the men's finishers on Saturday as he posted a 36th place finish for the 8 K course in 27:43. Freshman Nick Bond (Middletown, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) was right behind him in 37th in 27:47.
Freshman Shaun McGeever (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) added a 43rd place finish on the day in 27:56. Sophomore Kyle Roos (mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Regional) picked up 56th in 28:05, while freshman Kevin Schickling (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) picked up 83rd in 28:35 for the Lions.
TCNJ's men's and women's teams will travel next week to the 2008 NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional
Championships which will be held at St. Lawrence University (Canton, NY) and will determine the region's 2008 qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Championship on November 22.
