Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey's men's swimming and diving team continued competition on Saturday in the Lions' Invitational, a three-day event with Springfield College.
The men's team won the 800 freestyle relay with a performance of 7:09.99 as sophomore
Tim Rauch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), sophomore
Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), rookie
Mike Vernoia (Hillsborough, NJ/Immaculata), and sophomore
Shawn Kircher (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) combined. TCNJ picked up second in the 200 medley relay as well with a time of 1:37.84 as senior
Tom Nawrot (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), junior
Eric Rohrs (Congers, NY/Clarkstown High North), Medvecky, and Kicrher swam on the relay foursome.
Rauch won the 400 individual medley in 4:10.67, just ahead of sophomore
Joe Tseng (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) who took second in 4:13.14.
Medvecky added a win for the Lions in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.14 which was just ahead of his team mate, junior
Herman Chu (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) who took second in 54.63. Vernoia won the 200 freestyle race for the Lions with his time of 1:44.41, while Rohrs took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.56.
Nawrot added a win in the 100 backstroke after posting a time of 53.58 and team mate, senior
Mike Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) took second in 54.54.
Rookie diver
TJ Burns (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) took second in one performance on the one meter board with a score of 296.93 and picked up a third on the other three-meter competition with his score of 446.70.
