Question: Once the field hockey season has drawn to a close, how do you spend your spare time outside of studying?
Jessica Falcone: I’m usually broke by the end of my field hockey season. My family owns a small catering business so I try to work with them as much as possible over winter break. Last spring, I also had the opportunity to help coach lacrosse at Lawrenceville Prep. Coaching was a great experience and I would love to continue that in the future.
Q: When you suffered an ACL injury, how did you spend most of your spare time?
JF: I spent a lot of time on my couch watching SOAPnet. Re-runs of Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, 90210 and an occasional pint of Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough were the highlights of my day.
Q: Tell us about a failure on the athletic field that you experienced which has made you a better athlete today.
JF: My senior year in high school we lost in the playoffs to a team that we had already beaten twice that season. I remind myself of that loss frequently because any team can beat you on any given day. Beating a team once doesn't mean that it will happen the next time you play them. It’s important to never expect to win, but to expect that your opponent, no matter what their record is, will always be playing their hardest to try to beat you.
Q: Tell us something in general about male athletes that make you roll your eyes?
JF: They always seem to be yelling in the locker room. However, when I was walking by the other day, I heard them belting out, "You belong to me" by Taylor Swift. … Very entertaining to listen to.
Q: What is your favorite sports movie of all time and why?
JF: I love Miracle. It is such an inspirational movie and great to watch before any big game.
Q: Who was the first band you ever saw in concert?
JF: 'N Sync. I used to be obsessed with them.
Q: Besides playing sports, what is your favorite thing to do at TCNJ?
JF: I live off-campus but am not a fan of cooking and cleaning my dishes, so I still enjoy going to Eickhoff especially now that they have Lucky Charms!
Q: There is a raffle at a club in the city and your number is chosen. In order for you to pick up your prize of $10,000, you must sing a song (on karaoke) to the audience. What song do you choose to perform?
JF: "Single Ladies" by Beyonce. I obviously would sound nothing like her but that song and music video are amazing. I would probably try to do the dance and embarrass myself even more but it would definitely be worth $10,000.
