Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey field hockey team made “Senior Night” a winning one as the Lions wrapped up the home portion of its schedule topping Ramapo College by the score of 3-0 on Thursday.

Prior to the game, the team’s two seniors, Gabby Cafone (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) and Jess Jones (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) were recognized for the dedication to TCNJ’s program and part of “Senior Night.”

The win clinched second place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference for the Lions as they went 5-1, and are 9-5 overall. Ramapo dropped to 6-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

The Lions posted one goal in the opening period as junior Jessica Falcone (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) slid a shot under Ramapo goalie Megan Tierney (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) making it a 1-0 game. Credited with an assist on the play was freshman Camille Passucci (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls).

TCNJ increased its lead to 2-0 with 21:25 left in the second half as freshman Emilie Taylor (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) notched her third of the season with an assist from sophomore Alex Okuniewicz (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South).

The Lions added one more goal as freshman Caitlyn Jenkins (Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway) deflected in a shot originally taken by Okuniewicz for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.

Sophomore Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) picked up her fourth shutout of the season making one save. Syciarz did get some help in the final minutes as Okuniewicz and Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) each recorded defensive saves.

Tierney finished with six saves for the Roadrunners.

TCNJ finishes the regular season on Sunday, November 1 heading to undefeated and sixth-ranked SUNY Cortland for a 1 p.m. start, while Ramapo returns home to play SUNY New Paltz on Saturday at 1 p.m.
