Pomona, NJ ... The College of New Jersey women's cross country team won its 15th consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference championship and 26th league title in the 29 years the NJAC has sponsored women's cross country as a league sport.
The Lions defeated the field of NJAC opponents posting a score of 31. Rowan University was the runner-up at the event with a score of 50.
Senior
Michelle Wallace (Emerson, NJ/Emerson) led all TCNJ runners placing second in the 6k event out of 65 runners. Wallace ran a time of 22:37.33 and improved on her fourth-place finish in the 2008 NJAC championships.
Sophomore
Katie Nestor (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) ran an outstanding race placing fourth with a time of 24:06.15. Seniors
Kelly Cahill (Coram, NY/Longwood) and
Nicole Ullmeyer (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) sealed the title by crossing the finish line seventh and eightg respectively with times 24:13.69 and 24:18.69.
Freshman
Rachel Morris (Marlboro, NJ/Colts Neck) had a very nice showing in her first NJAC championship race posting a time 24:28.98, which placed her tenth. Senior
Cathy Goncalves (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) rounded out the Lions runner placing in the top 20 by coming in 19th with a finishing time of 25:27.97.
Jena Peacock of Rowan University placed first overall with a time of 22:03.90
The next event for the ]women's teams is the ECAC Championships held at Williams College in Williamstown, PA on Saturday, November 7 at 11 a.m.
