Ewing, NJ... A trio of players from The College of New Jersey field hockey program were cited for their performances during the 2009 season earning regional honors.
Junior Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) was named to the 2009 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-South Atlantic First Team, while teammates Jessica Falcone (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) and Alex Okuniewicz (Toms River, NJ/South) each landed spots on the second team.
This wasn't the first honor for these players as each of them was previously named All-New Jersey Athletic Conference First Team.
Waller was an anchor in the midfield as she chipped in offensively with two goals and two assists, along with a team-leading six defensive saves.
Falcone was key player for the Lions on the front line as she ranked among the team leaders with five goals and added a pair of assists. She also contributed with a pair of game-winning goals.
Okuniewicz excelled at both ends of the field as the defender ranked second on the team with seven goals and added two assists. She also recorded three defensive saves.
The Lions finished the regular season with a 9-6 record and finished second in the conference with a mark of 5-1.
