Michelle Wallace (Emerson, NJ/Emerson) and junior
TJ Bocchino (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) went stride for stride with the best cross country runners in the country at the NCAA Division III National Championships in Highland Hills, Ohio.
Wallace placed 72nd out of 279 runners finishing the 6k race with a time of 23:20.9. Junior Wendy Palvus of St. Lawrence University was crowned national champion posting a time of 21:28.0 winning the race by more than 17 seconds.
Wallace had a tremendous fall season placing 8th in the Atlantic Regional Championships and being named to the New Jersey Athletic Conference First Team.
Bocchino placed 262 in the 8k race and gained valuable experience to propel him to the 2010 championships for his senior season. He finished with a time of 28:36.9 as the lone member of the Lions team to qualify for nationals. Senior Ricky Flynn of Lynchburg College won the men's national championship with a race time of 25:09.8, defeating the second place finisher by more than 22 seconds.
In his junior season, Bocchino placed 24th in the Atlantic Regional Championships and received All-NJAC First Team honors.
