Chester, PA… The College of New Jersey kicked off the 2009 outdoor season for track and field with both the men's and women's teams turning in solid efforts on the first day of the Danny Curran Invitational on Friday.
The two-day event was hosted by Widener University.
Men's Highlights
Sophomore Alexander Necovski (Watchung, NJ/Watchung Hills) had a strong meet for the Lions winning shot put with a heave of 13.52 meters, while placing second in the discus with a toss of 43.21 meters.
Sophomore Tim Blashford (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) earned a second-place finish in the pole vault as he cleared a height of 4.25 meters.
Junior Al Wonesh (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) opened the spring campaign by placing third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.90 seconds.
TCNJ also performed well in the 4x400 relay with one team claiming second place in 3:20.63 and a second team in third with a time of 3:24.34.
Women's Highlights
TCNJ won the 4x400 relay as the Lions boasted a winning effort off 3:59.78.
Junior Priscilla Senyah (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) finished second in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.24 seconds, while sophomore Alexandra Tomaselli (Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack, Valley) took third in the 400 hurdles in 66.64 seconds.
Senior Stephanie Herrick (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) placed fourth in the 5,000 meters in 17:56.88 and teammate Jianna Spadaccini (Butler, NJ/Butler) War Memorial) finished in that same spot in the 400 meters (58.03).
Sophomore Cristina D'Amato (Madison, NJ/Madison) was fifth in the discus (34.13 meters) and classmate Meryl Wimberly (Farmingdale, NJ/Colts Neck) picked up seventh in the 800 (2:18.60).
Freshman Katie Nestor (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) placed in the top 10 of the 1,500 meters taking ninth in 4:54.99.
