Philadelphia, PA… Competing at the prestigious Penn Relays, The College of New Jersey ran at the elite level the competition is known for as the Lions boasted fast times in a number of events.
The women’s 4x800 relay team set a school record in the 4x800 with a time of 8:53.04 breaking the previous mark by more than 15 seconds. That team consisted of Jianna Spadaccini (Butler, NJ/Butler), Meryl Wimberly (Farmingdale, NJ/Colts Neck), Katie Nestor (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands), and Stephanie Herrick (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) as they finished third overall trailing only NCAA Division I teams Purdue University and Duke University.
The men shined in a number of relay events as the 4x400 team of Rob McGowan (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.), Pasquale DiGioacchino (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards), DeShard Stevens (Jersey City, NJ/James T. Ferris), and Steve Murray (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) ran an ECAC qualifying time of 3:19.25.
TCNJ also had an ECAC mark in the 4x100 with a clocking of 42.52.
In the sprint medley relay, the Lions finished second in their heat trailing only Wake Forest University. The team of Chris Medina (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Rob Jiggetts (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville), McGowan and DiGioacchino turned in a time of 3:31.48.
