Sietsma's single lifts TCNJ to 2-1 win over Ramapo

Ewing, NJ…Junior Alex Sietsma (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) singled in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning as The College of New Jersey softball team edged visiting Ramapo College 2-1 on Tuesday.

The win kept the third-seeded Lions (24-15) in the winner's bracket of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament and will face second-seeded William Paterson University at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 1 at Rowan University. The Pioneers posted a 3-0 win over Kean University.

Ramapo (25-10) will also play on Friday at Rowan taking on the top-seeded Profs, which beat Montclair State University, 3-0.

Sietsma laced a singled down the right field line as senior Kelly Armstrong (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) raced home from second base. Armstrong got aboard with a one-out double.

The Lions broke through with the first run of the game in the last of the third as Michelle Kent (Sparta, NJ/Pope John) led off the inning with a single and pinch-runner Jamie Mastrioanni (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) later scored on Roadrunner miscue.

The Roadrunners knotted the score in the top of the sixth as Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) singled through the right side to plate Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ/Eastern Christian) to force extra innings.

TCNJ's Ashley Minervini (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) pitched a complete game for the Lions allowing just the one run on three hits with five strikeouts.

Ramapo's Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) pitched well in defeat yielding two runs in 7.2 innings with seven strikeouts.
