New York, NY… The College of New Jersey continued its push toward the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships by posting numerous provisional cuts at the New York City Qualifying Challenge held at Icahn Stadium.
Men’s Highlights
The Lions excelled in a pair of relays as two teams placed in the top 10 of the 4x400 and the 4x100 team also boasted a top-five finish.
The 4x400 team of senior Pasquale DiGioacchino (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards), sophomore Jule Brooks (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City), senior Steve Murray (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown), and sophomore DeShard Stevens (Jersey City, NJ/James T. Ferris) placed third with an NCAA provisional time of 3:14.76. The quartet of freshman Brandon Leftridge (Ewing, NJ/Ewing), freshman Justin Worthing (West Orange, NJ/West Orange), senior Woodrow Prevard (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Twp.), and freshman Chris Medina (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) placed sixth with a time of 3:18.70.
TCNJ also had a strong showing in the 4x100 as Medina, Leftridge, Brooks, and freshman Robert Jiggetts (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) collected a season-best time of 42.17 seconds.
Women’s Highlights
Senior Kristen Tricocci (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had a big meet for the Lions setting a school record in the long jump sailing a distance of 5.67 meters. That mark was also a NCAA provisional cut. Teammate Emma Tucci (Verona, NJ/Verona) also had a provisional distance in the event as she had a mark of 5.49 meters.
Tricocci was also part of two relay teams that boasted provisional marks. In the 4x100, she teamed up with freshman Tiffany Etheredge (Newark, NJ/Central), junior Miriam Kahn (Titusville, NJ/Hopewell Valley), and junior Priscilla Senyah (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) to run a swift time of 47.99 seconds to place third.
The 4x400 relay team won their event as the quartet of Tricocci, junior Jianna Spadaccini (Butler, NJ/Butler), senior Stephanie Herrick (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley), and sophomore Meryl Wimberly (Farmingdale, NJ/Colts Neck) ran a provisional clip of 3:51.67.
