TCNJ sees tournament run end with loss to Keystone

Lakewood, NJ… Keystone College brought an end to The College of New Jersey’s run at the NCAA Division III Baseball Mid-Atlantic Regional in Lakewood as the Giants used back-to-back big innings to post an 11-3 win over the Lions at FirstEnergy Park on Saturday.

TCNJ had won two straight in the tournament before seeing another successful season come to a close with a record of 27-18-1.

With the win, Keystone (40-5) advanced to the championship game of the regional where they faced Kean University.

Keystone starter Brett Repard (Hughesville, PA) went the distance for Keystone as he remained unbeaten on the season at 10-0.

The Giants manufactured a run in the first as Ray Jackson (Lewes, DE) singled, stole second, moved to third on a long fly out, before scoring on a base hit by Eric Groff (Lebanon, PA) for a 1-0 edge.

Keystone scored five times in the third as Ben Fish (Muncy, PA) provided the big hit with a three-run home run to left increasing the difference to 6-0.

In the fourth, the Lions got onto the scoreboards as Ryan Anzelone (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Twp.) laced a single into right that brought home junior Chris Esperon (Union, NJ/Union Catholic).

The Giants also scored in the fourth plating four more runs and another in the fifth making it an 11-1 game.

TCNJ’s Vince Mazzaccaro (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) put two more runs on the board for the Lions in the sixth drilling a two-run homer scoring Esperon to left making it a 11-3 contest.

Mazzaccaro finished the game with three hits, drove in two and also scored a run.
