Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey capped the 2009 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships in impressive fashion reeling in numerous All-American citations on Saturday at Marietta College in Ohio.
TCNJ’s women also had a strong finish in the team standings as they tied for 10th place with 20 points.
The Lions had a pair of All-Americans in the women’s 800 meters as junior Jianna Spadaccini (Butler, NJ/Butler) was the national runner-up with a time of 2:09.37, while senior Stephanie Herrick (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) claimed fifth in 2:10.30. Herrick is now a four-time All-American in the 800.
TCNJ’s women’s 4x100 relay team of sophomore Tiffany Etheredge (Newark, NJ/Central), senior Kristen Tricocci (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), junior Priscilla Senyah (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial), and junior Miriam Khan (Titusville, NJ/Hopewell Valley) garnered All-American honors by finishing fourth with a swift clocking of 47.26 seconds. That time was also a season-best for the Lions.
In the 4x400 relay, the team of finished sixth as the quartet of Tricocci, Spadaccini, Herrick, and Meryl Wimberly (Farmingdale, NJ/Colts Neck) teamed up for a time of 3:48.83 and collected All-American honors.
For the men, junior Al Wonesh (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) made his NCAA Championship debut a successful one as he earned All-American honors in the 400 meter hurdles. He finished fifth with a time of 52.79 seconds.
TCNJ also picked up All-American honors in the men’s 4x400 as the team of sophomore Jule Brooks (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City), senior Pasquale DiGioacchino (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards), senior Steve Murray (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown), and junior DeShard Stevens (Jersey City, NJ/James T. Ferris) combined for a time of 3:14.81 to place eighth.
