Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey senior softball player Ellen Seavers (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) added another honor to her growing list of accomplishments as she was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II First Team.
Seavers has a grade-point-average of 3.97 majoring in early childhood education/psychology. She earned all-district second team honors in 2008. She will now move onto the national ballot.
The shortstop was also recently recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association landing on the East Region Second Team. This marked the second straight year she has been honored by the organization after garnering honorable mention in 2008.
Seavers started every game at shortstop for the Lions this season and led the team in batting with an average of .325. She also topped the Lions in hits (40), walks (12) and stolen bases (18), while ranking second in runs (22), doubles (6), home runs (3), and runs batted in (20).
In each of her three seasons as a member of TCNJ’s program, Seavers has been cited by the New Jersey Athletic Conference, being named to the first team in each of the last two seasons and received honorable mention in 2007.
The Lions finished the season in third place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference for the second straight year, capping the season with a record of 24-17.
