New Orleans, LA…The College of New Jersey received United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women's Division III All-Academic Track and Field Team honors.
The USTFCCCA honored 101 teams this year. Schools are chosen based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements. The top honor goes to the team that has the highest combination of overall finish at the NCAA Division III Indoor and or/Outdoor Championships and cumulative grade point average (GPA). To be nominated, a team must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.1. The Lion women ranked 92nd among the qualifying school with a 3.143 team GPA.
The Lions also had four individuals named to the 2009 USTFCCCA Division III Women’s All-Academic Track and Field Team. That group included senior Stephanie Herrick (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley), freshman Claire Johnson (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), senior Martine McGrath (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional), and junior Michelle Wallace (Emerson, NJ/Emerson).
TCNJ’s men’s team had three student-athletes honored being named to the 2009 USTFCCCA Division III Men’s All-Academic Track and Field Team. Honored for their performances both on the track and in the classroom were sophomore TJ Bocchino (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East), sophomore Kyle Gilroy (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford Township), and DeShard Stevens (Jersey City, NJ/James T. Ferris).
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
