Two members of The College of New Jersey’s men’s basketball program spent part of their summer participating in the Athletes in Action (AIA), which took to the hardwood in Guatemala and Belize. As members of the AIA basketball team, Jay Frank (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) and Aaron Syvertsen (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) competed against various teams located in Guatemala and Belize throughout the three-week tour while also growing in their faith.

“I can’t wait to meet the different people on the trip. I am looking forward to going to Central America as well,” Frank said prior to the trip.

Frank, a junior guard, led the Lions with a field-goal percentage of .437, a free throw percentage of .859 and an average of 15.7 points per game.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to use the platform of basketball to combine athletics with ministry,” added Syvertsen. “I want to build relationships with both my AIA teammates as well as the players I compete against in Guatemala.”

Syvertsen, a junior forward, averaged 12.8 points per game, had a field goal percentage of .405, a free throw percentage of .833 and a three point percentage of .382.
