DiColo joins 100-win club as Lions extend win streak

Dan DiColo picked up his 100th career win as Lion.

Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey wrestling team added two more victories to its growing winning streak as the Lions beat both York (PA) College and Elizabethtown College in a matinee at Packer Hall on Tuesday.

The seventh-ranked Lions started the day with a 38-0 win over York and then rallied past Elizabethtown by the count of 20-13. Those two wins pushed TCNJ’s win streak to 15 straight dating back to last season and the in the team’s last 20 dual meets they are unbeaten at 19-0-1.

In the day’s other two matches, Elizabethtown defeated Centenary by the score of 27-6, with Centenary bouncing back for a 24-10 victory over York.

The latest two wins put TCNJ at 10-0 for the season.

The highlight of the win over York was Dan DiColo (Budd Lake, NJ/Mt. Olive) joining TCNJ’s 100-win club as he picked up a 5-1 win at 165 pounds. DiColo, who is ranked seventh nationally at 157 pounds, added a second win against Elizabethtown raising his career mark to 101- 31.

In the second match against Elizabethtown, the Lions trailed 10-3 after the first four weight classes, but finished strong coming out on top in the final six.

Joining DiColo with two wins on the day for TCNJ were sophomore Dan Herr (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) at 133, sophomore Kyle Packer (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) at 141, freshman Brian Broderick (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) at 174, junior Mike Denver (Bayville, NJ/Central Regional) and 184, and junior Ed Broderick (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) at heavyweight.

TCNJ is back on the mat this weekend competing in the prestigious Budd Whitehill Challenge Duals hosted by Lycoming College. The two-day tournament kicks off on Friday, January 15 with the Lions taking on Muskigum College in the opening round.
