Williamsport, PA... The College of New Jersey wrestling team continued its winning ways on the opening day of the 2010 Budd Whitehill Duals as the Lions racked up three victories on Friday.

TCNJ, ranked seventh nationally and seeded second in the tournament, opened with a convincing 48-0 win over Muskigum College and then followed with another lopsided triumph over Rochester Institute of Technology by the score of 50-0. In the final dual meet of the day, the Lions handled 29th-ranked Olivet College by the score of 33-4.

Action resumes on Saturday with the Lions facing 15th-ranked and third-seeded SUNY Cortland in the semifinals at 10:30 a.m.

The three wins on Friday run the program’s streak to 18 straight victories dating back to last season and  in the team’s last 23 dual meets, they are unbeaten at 22-0-1.

The Lions started strong winning all 10 weight classes against the Fighting Muskies before recording five pins against RIT. Four of those pins came in less than a minute. The team also finished strong as they reeled off wins in the final seven bouts against Olivet.

The latest bunch of victories put TCNJ at 13-0 for the season.

TCNJ had four wrestlers got a perfect 3-0 on the first day of the tournament. Dan Franke (Jackson, NJ/Freehold Boro) got the Lions off to a good start in each of the three duals winning each of his matches at 125 pounds, while sophomore Kyle Packer (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) matched that feat splitting time between 157 and 165 pounds. Freshman Brian Broderick (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) and junior Mike Denver (Bayville, NJ/Central Regional) also went 3-0 on the day with Broderick taking the mat at 174 pounds and Denver at 184.
