Lions fall in final seconds at Ramapo

Mahwah, NJ…Ramapo College’s AJ LoRusso connected on a bucket with 16 seconds remaining as the Roadrunners rallied past The College of New Jersey’s men’s basketball team on Saturday, 76-75.

The Lions held a 75-67 lead with 1:36 remaining as senior Jay Frank (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) hit one of two attempts from the foul line.

Ramapo then closed out the game going on a 9-0 run, including the deciding bucket in the waning seconds.

TCNJ did have a chance to come away with the win, but the Lions miss fired on their final shot, grabbed an offensive rebound before the Roadrunners forced a turnover to end the game.

The loss put TCNJ at 4-5 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play and 11-8 overall, while Ramapo improved to 15-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

Frank led all scorers with 25 points and added eight rebounds, while classmate Aaron Syvertsen (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) added 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Junior Steve Siracusa (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) chipped in with a double-double boasting 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lions are right back on the court on Monday, February 1 hosting Penn State Brandywine in a 7 p.m. tip-off in Packer Hall.
