Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey's Robin Selbst was named the 2010 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Lion coach was one of three assistant coaches honored by the organization as Colleen Shearer (Virginia) won the honor at Division I and Tom Kienle (Rollins) at Division II.
Selbst, a former lacrosse student-athlete at TCNJ, recently completed her 10th year as the assistant coach at her alma mater. After helping the Lions win a national title in 1996 as a player, she returned to the sidelines where she has helped TCNJ win the national championship three times. She also serves as the assistant coach for the Lions' field hockey team, working with head coach Sharon Pfluger in both programs.
“I am extremely honored to receive this award and am very appreciative to be recognized by my fellow peers,” Selbst said. “It is immensely rewarding to have the opportunity to continue to give back to a program that has helped me grow as a coach and person throughout the years.”
This past spring, the Lions boasted a record of 16-4 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2010 NCAA Division III Championship. The tournament bid was the 26th straight for the program.
“I'm really happy for Robin to be recognized with this honor,” Pfluger stated. “She is extremely dedicated to our programs at TCNJ. It's a well deserved honor.”
TCNJ opens the 2011 campaign hosting Frostburg State University on March 5 in a 1 p.m. start in Lions' Stadium.
