TCNJ runners shine at two events

Boston, MA...The College of New Jersey women's indoor track and field team had a busy, yet successful, weekend competing at two different invitationals on Friday.

A handful of Lions competed at the Valentine's Invitational hosted by Boston University and those runners excelled going up against a large field consisting of programs from all NCAA divisions.

In the 800 meters, TCNJ had two runners boast impressive times as Senior Jianna Spadaccini (Butler, NJ/Butler) placed seventh overall with an automatic NCAA time of 2:10.57, while junior Meryl Wimberly (Farmingdale, NJ/Colts, Neck) picked up a provisional mark in the same race with a time of 2:15.36.

Senior Priscilla Senyah (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) had a provisional time in the 55-meter hurdles as she earned a seventh-place finish with a time of 8.21 seconds. She also met an ECAC qualifying mark in the 200 meters with a swift time of 25.76 seconds.

Senior Michelle Wallace (Emerson, NJ/Emerson) won her section of the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:15.51 and that number put her fifth overall in the large field of 63 runners. That time was also a NCAA provisional qualifier.

Sophomore Katie Nestor (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) added an ECAC qualifying mark in the mile at 5:09.08. 

The Lions saved their best performance for last as the distance medley relay team posted the best time in Division III to date with a swift time of 11:46.66. That time is an automatic NCAA mark as was run by the quartet of Nestor, Wimberly, Spadacinni, and Wallace.

At the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games held at the 168th Street Armory in New York City, freshman Rachel Morris (Marlboro, NJ/Colts Neck) placed sixth overall in the 5,000 as she completed the event in 18:29.92. That time also qualified her for the ECAC Championships.

Senior Meghan Miller (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) also had an ECAC mark in the 60-meter hurdles finishing 11th overall in a time of 9.57 seconds.

Junior Rochelle Prevard (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow) added a top-10 finish in the 500 meters taking seventh place in 1:23.55, while Kayla Ghanavati (Seaville, NJ/Ocean City) was 10th in the 60 meters in 8.11 seconds.
