Piscataway, NJ ... The College of New Jersey women’s swimming and diving team has accumulated 906 points heading into the final day of the Metropolitan Conference Championships as they own a strong-hold on first place.

Second-place University of Bridgeport has tallied 696 points as the Lions are in total command of claiming their third straight MET conference championship.

Junior Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) set a new school record that she previously shared with head coach Jen Harnett winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.76. The mark was also an NCAA automatic qualifying time. Teammate Melissa Hessler (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) registered a B-cut finishing in 1:55.78.

Freshman Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) posted an NCAA automatic qualifying time with her 1:03.86 finish in the preliminary heat of the 100-yard breaststroke. The time was also a MET conference meet record and TCNJ program record previously held by teammate Katie Morgan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield). Shangle placed first in the finals at 1:04.25 (also an automatic qualifier) while Morgan recorded a NCAA provisional cut time in that same race finishing in 1:06.32.

Sophomore Laura Pierce (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill) placed first and posted a NCAA automatic qualifier in the 100-yard butterfly finishing in 56.05. Senior Christina Falcone (Newtown, PA/Notre Dame) earned a provisional B-cut placing fifth with a time of 58.60.

In the 200-yard medley relay race, Shangle, Pierce, Ashley Robb (Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), and Traci Hofer (Millville, NJ/Millville) took second place. Their time of 1:46.48 was a provisional qualifier. Hessler, Molloy, Danielle Dilts (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), and Jennifer Rashti (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) posted a B-cut time of 7:49.88 in the 800-yard freestyle relay placing second in the event.

The final day begins tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ.
