Minneapolis, Minn ... For the second time in as many days, sophomore Mike Vernoia (Hillsborough, NJ/Immaculata), placed second in an individual event to earn All-American honors for The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving team at the 2010 Division III National Championships.
Vernoia posted a time of 1:38.80 in the 200-yard freestyle event. On Wednesday, the sophomore broke his own school record with a time of 4:25.28 in the 500-free en route to national runner-up.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, freshman Adam Schneider (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), junior Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), sophomore Ryan Clark (Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine), and junior Shawn Kircher (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) took sixth place with a time of 1:22.45 to earn All-American citations.
Senior James VanBiervliet (HIllsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), Myles O'Connor (Santa Monica, CA/Homeschool), Medvecky and Vernoia took seventh place in the 400 medley relay to earn All-American honors. The foursome posted a time of 3:21.83.
On Wednesday, the Lions placed fifth in the 200-medley relay as VanBiervliet, O'Connor, Schneider, and Kircher teamed up to post a time of 1:31.45.
Schneider also placed 11th in the 50-free finishing in 20.52 to garner All-American honorable mention.
TCNJ currently sits in fifth place overall after the second day of events.
