Pierce shines; 200 free relay takes 4th at NCAAs

Senior Ashley Robb
Minneapolis, Minn ... Sophomore Laura Pierce (Cherry HIll, NJ/Cherry Hill West) placed 6th in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard freestyle relay team took fourth as The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team moved up to seventh place after day two of the 2010 Division III NCAA Championships.

Pierce earned All-American honors posting a time of 56.11. It was the third All-American citation for Pierce this week and first in an individual event.

The 200-free relay team of Traci Hofer (Millville, NJ), senior Ashley Robb (Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Pierce, and freshman Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) set a school record with a time of 1:34.97 to stake their claim to fourth place at the national event.

This is the second school record for this foursome at the NCAA championships as they set the mark on opening day in the 200-yard medley relay. They placed sixth in that event to earn All-American honors with a time of 1:45.76.
