Minneapolis, Minn. ... Freshman
Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) is making the most of her first experience competing at the NCAA championships.
The lone freshman in the country to qualify for the finals in the 100-yard breaststroke, Shangle finished fifth with a time of 1:04.56. In just her first season with The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team, Shangle can call herself and All-American.
Shangle already earned national acclaim as a member of the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay earlier in the week. In addition to those achievements, she now has an individual event to add to her scapbook.
In Friday's final event, the relay team of Shangle, sophomore
Traci Hofer (Millville, NJ/Millville), sophomore
Melissa Hessler (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra), and junor
Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) placed 14th in the 800-yard freestyle relay earning the Lions six points.
TCNJ is currently in seventh place overall entering the final day of NCAA championship competition on Saturday.
