Lions win twice; Fitzsimmons fires perfect game

Lauren Fitzsimmons tossed a perfect game against Wisconsin Lutheran.

Clermont, FL...The College of New Jersey softball team made quick work of their two opponents on Monday to post victories over The Sage College (NY) and Wisconsin Lutheran College to remain undefeated in the early stages of the season.

The Lions started the day with a 9-1 win over The Sage Colleges in six innings and came right back to score a 9-0 shutout over Wisconsin Lutheran in five innings.

TCNJ is a modest 4-0 on the young season and have outscored the opposition by a count of 38-5 with three of those wins coming in less than seven innings.

The Lions have a day off before returning to the diamond on Wednesday, March 10 facing Pine Manor College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in single games.

The Lions scored three runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings to power their way to the win. Senior Ellen Seavers (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) picked up a pair of hits, including a home run, while driving in two runs.

Rebecca Florczyk (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) and Crystal Lee (Dover, NJ/Morris Knolls) also contributed to the win driving in two runs apiece.

Senior Ashley Minervini (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) improved her record to 2-0 tossing a two-hitter with six strikeouts.

TCNJ had good offensive and defensive balance again in the second game scoring at least two runs in each of the four innings they batted.

Sophomore Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) had a tremendous game on the mound tossing a perfect game and striking out a season-high 11 batters. She faced the minimum 15 batters retiring them all in order.

Ashley Sogluizzo (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) provided some pop to the offense getting pair of hits and scoring three times. Caitlyn Seamster (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) also had a pair of hits, while Michelle Kent (Sparta, NJ/Pope John) tripled and Seavers doubled.
