Meet results
Ewing, NJ ... The College of New Jersey men's and women's outdoor track and field program hosted a Last Chance Qualifying meet and student-athletes from more than 40 institutions participated for one last shot at solidifying a spot at the 2010 Division III NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The final selections for track and field athletes who qualify for the NCAA championship event will be determined late Sunday evening.
Junior
Meryl Wimberly (Farmingdale, NJ/Colts Neck) had a memorable day as she qualified for the championship meet in the 800-meter event. She also teamed up with senior
Jianna Spadaccini (Butler, NJ/Butler), junior
Miriam Khan (Titusville, NJ/Hopewell Valley), and junior Kayla
Ghanavati (Seaville, NJ/Ocean City) to qualify in the 4x400 relay.
Wimberly was on the bubble entering Thursday's meet, but she knocked nearly four seconds off her top time finishing in 2:09.94. It is the third-best time in Division III this season, one spot behind Spadacinni who owns the second-best time heading into NCAAs at 2:09.22
Junior
Brianna Brennan (Marlton, NJ/Holy Cross) also put herself into position to qualify as she produced her best throw of 2010 in the javelin. She fired the spear 42.10 meters, which topped her previous mark of 39.82 by more than a meter.
Senior
Priscilla Senyah (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) had already qualified in the 100-meter hurdles and will now have the option of competing in the 100-yard dash at the championships. She posted a time of 12.25, while teammate
Tiffany Etheredge (Newark, NJ/Central) finished in 12.84 seconds.
On the men's side junior
Kyle Gilroy (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford Twp.) broke his own school record in the 110-meter hurdles finishing in 14.39 seconds. That is the second-best time posted by a Division III runner this spring.
