Athletes post personal bests at Lions' Invitational

Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's outdoor track and field team had a banner day at their home track as they hosted the annual Lions Invitational on Saturday afternoon. More than 35 collegiate programs from Divisions I, II, and III and 800 athletes competed at the event.
 
For the Lions, sophomore Dominic Tasco (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) defeated all 62 runners in the 1500-meter event. He posted a season-best time of 3:56.58 to win the race. Sophomore Mike Jones (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) took 18th place in that same event with a time of 4:10.48.
 
Junior Andy Gallagher (New Foundland, NJ/West Milford) also took top honors in winning the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:33.47. He cut off more than 11 seconds from his best time this season prior to this weekend.
 
Junior Julio Alorro (Creskill, NJ/Creskill)  cleared 4.65 meters in the pole vault, which is his best result of 2012. He won the event outright, while senior Colin Gold (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) placed third vaulting over 4.35 meters.
 
It was another strong showing for junior Steven D'Aiutolo (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) in the triple jump event. The school record holder placed second in the competition, but had the top distance of all Division III athletes. D'Aiutolo posted a distance of 14.05 meters. Freshman Troy O'Connor (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) took ninth place with a distance of 12.09 meters.
 
O'Connor also competed in the 110-meter hurdles. He placed tenth overall with a time of 16.78, while teammate Louis Fisher (Delran, NJ/Delran) took fifth place with a finish of 15.80. He had the second fastest times amongst Division III entrants and O'Connor was fourth in that grouping.
 
Junior Alex Brown (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) posted the fifth best time in the 400-meter dash. His time of 50.33 was a season-best and second-best in Division III competition. Sophomore Michael Spekhardt (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) registered a time of 51.40 to place 12th overall.
 
Freshman Erik Moutenot (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) ran his quickest time of 2012 in the 400-meter hurdle event. He placed seventh overall with a time of 55.15, which was second amongst Division III competitors.
 
Sophomore Scott Lisa (Highand Lakes, NJ/Vernon) had a busy day placing ninth in the high jump at 1.85 meters, 12th in the long jump at 5.79 meters, and also contributed to the second place finish in the 4x100 relay.
 
Lisa raced with senior Chris Medina (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), senior Robert Jiggetts (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville), and junior Kyle Magliaro (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) to finish second overall with a time of 43.02.
 
Spekhardt, Moutenot, Magliaro, and James O'Connor (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) had the fastest Division III time in the 4x400 relay. They posted 3:28.48, which was second overall.
 
The Lions will now gear up for the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships next Saturday. The meet will be held at Richard Stockton College.
