Chester sets mark at Swarthmore Last Chance

The College of New Jersey women's outdoor track and field team produced a number of outstanding individual performances at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet held under the lights at Swarthmore College on Monday night.
 
None were more exciting than the performance put forth by sophomore Jack Chester (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley), who broke the school record in the pole vault event. She cleared 11' 5.75” (3.50 meters) to top the mark set by Lauren Pfiefer in 2008. Chester placed first in the event at Swarthmore.
 
Senior Alyssa Bannon (Spotswood, NJ/Bishop Ahr) crushed her season-best time in the 1500-meter event. She finished 18th overall but had the top Division III time in the race clocking 4:33.85. Her time improved by over four seconds and is now the 19th fastest in Division III this season.
 
Sophomore Megan Flynn (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) placed 10th in the 5000-meter race. She crossed the finish line in 17:53.02, while junior Cathy Goncalves (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) took 14th overall in 18:11.23. Senior  Cassandra Valdes (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) continues to improve her times as she took 15th overall in the 800-meter with a personal-best time of 2:18.21.
 
Sophomore Emily Kulcyk (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), junior Brielle Doremus (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex), and senior Nicole Brown (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) placed fifth, sixth, and seventh in the 400-meter hurdles. Kulcyk posted a season-best time of 1:02.87. Doremus and Brown also posted their fastest times of 2012 in 1:06.08 and 1:06.18 respectively. In the 100-hurdles, sophomore Katie Knight (Ocean Twp, NJ/Ocean Township) finished eighth with a time of 15.50.
 
Junior Erine O'Connor (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) cut more than seven seconds off her best time of the season in the 3000-meter steeplechase. She finished seventh overall with a time of 11:45.03.
 
In throwing events, graduate Brianna Brennan (Marlton, NJ/Holy Cross) posted her best toss in the javelin. The spear landed 39.36 in distance to place second, while junior Julianne Grandal (Cranford,NJ/Cranford) took third with a throw of 33.88.
 
Junior Mary Chismar (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) placed third in the shot put, registering a distance of 11.94 meters, while senior Amanda To (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) finished sixth in the hammer throw posting 32.85 meters.
 
TCNJ will play host this Thursday in the Lions' Last Chance Qualifier. The hammer throw event will begin at noon, while the track events start at 2:30 p.m.
