Four Lions earn All-American accolades

Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey was well represented when the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association handed out its All-American citations as four Lions were honored.

Seniors Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ Camden Catholic) each were named First Team IWLCA All-Americans, while junior Alex Spark (Harvey Cedars, NJ/Southern Regional) and Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) secured spots on the second team. All four players were previously named All-Boardwalk Region First Team by the IWLCA.

Mitchell repeated as a first-team All-American and has earned a large number of accolades this spring. She was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Attack Player of the Year in addition to being tabbed All-NJAC First Team. The senior broke her own record for assists in a season dishing out 85 and added 17 goals for 102 points. She also set a school mark for points in a game as she recorded 13 in a conference win over Ramapo with three goals and 10 assists, which set another school record. During the season, Mitchell broke the program's all-time scoring mark and put that new standard at 398 points on 175 goals and a school record 223 assists. She is also the only player in program history to score at least 100 points in a season three times.

Notos received All-American honors for the third straight year. This is her second first-team selection as with the first coming in 2010 and last season she was a second-team honoree. The senior was the NJAC as she was cited as the Midfielder of the Year. The senior finished with 51 goals, which marked the third time in her career she reached the 50-goal plateau. Notos added 11 assists for 62 points and led the team with 39 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers. Her 206 career goals rank sixth in on the program's all-time list.

Spark earned her first All-American honor as she netted a career-high 76 goals with 18 assists for 94 points. The attacker made the most of her goals as four of them were game-winners. She also tied a program record with nine goals in a game in a victory over Rowan University. Her accomplishments were recognized within the conference as well being named All-NJAC First Team.

The honor was also a first for Pigott as the defender excelled in several areas for the Lions setting career highs in a number of categories. At the offensive end of the field, the 2012 NJAC Defensive Player of the Year and first-team honoree had 38 goals and 49 points. She excelled defensively as she led the NJAC in draw controls with 92, had 33 ground balls, and 10 caused turnovers.
