Julio Alorro (Creskill, NJ/Creskill) placed 12th overall in the pole vault event at the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championships held in Claremont, Ca.
The College of New Jersey junior track and field athlete cleared 4.85 meters on his first attempt to take 12th out of 18 competitors in the event. It took him three attempts to sky over 4.75 meters and then he nailed his top height of 4.85 on his initial approach.
Junior Peter Geraghty of North Central College set an NCAA championship record by clearning 5.40 meters to claim the national tite. Teammate John Wood matched the Division III record by posting 5.35 meters and finished second in the nation.
Alorro capped an exceptional season as he set a new program record to qualify for the NCAA championships, clearing 4.91 meters at the Lions' Last Chance meet. He also earned 2012 First Team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference honors in the pole vault event. That followed his First Team All-NJAC selection after the indoor track and field season.
