Box Score Ewing, N.J. … The College of New Jersey softball team scored seven runs off of eight hits to earn a 7-1 win over Ramapo College in first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament.

The Lions capitalized on several Roadrunner errors to score three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.

TCNJ increased their lead to 6-0 in the third inning, highlighted by doubles by
Jamie Purcell (Nutley, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) and
Jess McGuire (Stockton, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional), and a two-run home run by
Jess Santelli (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough).

In the fifth inning, the Lions added one more run to make the score 7-0.
Colleen Phelan (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional) pinch hit and reached base when she was hit by a pitch.
Daniella Marino (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) re-entered as a baserunner and advanced to second when
Steph Vuono (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) walked.
Deanna Utter (Byram, NJ/Lenape Valley Regional) singled to right field to send Marino home.

Ramapo got on the board in the seventh inning when they scored one run, but the TCNJ defense shut down any further scoring opportunities to secure the victory.

Sam Platt (Cedar Grove, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) earned her 16th victory of the season on the mound. She allowed only five hits and struck out three batters.

Leading the team offensively were Santelli, who was 1-for-4 with a homerun and 2 RBI, and McGuire who went 2-for-4 with a double.

TCNJ is back in action on Friday, May 6 at Rowan University for the second round of NJAC tournament play. Their opponent will be decided following the conclusion of the remaining first round games.
