Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey wrestling team won six matches, earning four or more points in each victory, to secure a 30-19 win over Springfield College Sunday afternoon. The match featured two historic programs, as TCNJ earned their 700th program victory earlier this season and Springfield recently became the first Division III wrestling program to capture win number 1,000.
Luis Rivera (Landisville, NJ / Buena) and
Ryan Erwin (Milford, NJ / Delaware Valley) got the Lions off to a good start, each earning major decision victories and staking TCNJ to an 8-6 lead.
JT Beirne (Fanwood, NJ / Scotch Plains Fanwood) won by injury default to extend the Lions advantage to 14-6.
At 165
Nick Herring (Middletown, NJ / Middletown South) earned a major decision.
Dan Kilroy (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Hills) followed by winning by fall, his 12
th pin of the season. When Springfield forfeited the 184 pound weight class, TCNJ had clinched the victory with a 30-9 lead.
The Lions return to the mat Friday, February 3 at 7:00 pm when they travel to Wilkes College.
