Addison Savela arrived at The College of New Jersey in September of 2014 as the school’s first strength and conditioning coach. He works with all varsity sports programs and over 500 student-athletes at TCNJ.

Previously, Savela worked at a private gym in Connecticut as a strength coach/personal trainer. There, he trained a variety of clients individually and in groups. From November 2013 to March 2014, he trained St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Nick Greenwood, preparing him for the 2014 season with a focus on strength, speed, flexibility and mobility. He also served as the strength coach for the Glastonbury Women’s Tennis Club team. The team finished first in all categories of its league and advanced to the regional championships for the first time.

Prior to working at the gym, Savela was an intern in the strength and conditioning department at the University of Delaware in 2012. He assisted with football, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball and the spirit squad. During this time, he also implemented a summer strength program for the Academy of Notre Dame girl’s volleyball team in Tyngsboro, MA. He provided the team with a lifting and plyometric program focusing on developing speed, strength and endurance.

During the summer of 2010, Savela interned in the strength and conditioning department at Central Connecticut State University, where he assisted with the football and men’s and women’s basketball teams. At Springfield College, he was an intern for the strength and conditioning department during the winter and spring semesters of 2010, assisting the strength staff working with football, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s volleyball, field hockey, and track and field throwers.

During his tenure at Springfield, Savela spent five years working at the fitness center. He began as a wellness assistant and later became a wellness supervisor before ultimately becoming graduate assistant. He was responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, supervising 40 student employees, developing and enforcing policies and procedures, tracking facility maintenance, supervising the climbing wall and its staff, and running special events.

Addison resides in Ewing with his wife, Christine (Lage), and their daughters, Kinley, Kallie, and Kambry.
